Configure The Rules

Follow these steps to set up your Sprint Auto Scheduler configuration:

Step 1: Select Your Scrum Board

Begin by selecting a Scrum board from the dropdown menu.

Note that only boards configured as Scrum type will be displayed in the list. Boards of other types (like Kanban) will not appear as options.

Step 2: Configure Auto Start and Auto Stop Settings

You'll see toggle switches for two main automation features:

  • Auto Start: Automatically starts the next sprint when conditions are met

  • Auto Stop: Automatically stops the current sprint when the sprint end is reached.

Toggle these settings on or off based on your team's workflow preferences.

Step 3: Configure Auto Stop Behavior (If Enabled)

When Auto Stop is enabled, you need to specify where incomplete work items should be moved:

Work Item Destination Options:

  • Next Sprint: Moves open items to the next available sprint

  • Backlog: Returns open items to the product backlog

Next Sprint Configuration:

If you selected "Next Sprint" as the destination, you'll need to choose:

  • Create New Sprint: Enable this if you want the system to automatically create a new sprint when one doesn't exist

  • Fallback to Backlog: If disabled, items will be moved to the backlog when no next sprint is available

Step 4: Set Sprint Creation Advance Settings

Configure how many sprints you want the system to create in advance:

  • Range: None to 5 sprints

  • Recommendation: Consider your team's planning horizon and release cycle when selecting this number

Step 5: Save Your Configuration

Click the "Save" button to apply your settings. You'll receive a toast notification confirming that your configuration has been saved successfully.

Permission Requirements

Important: The configuration will only be saved if you have the necessary permissions. You must have "Manage Sprint" permission for all projects associated with the selected board.

If you lack the required permissions, the system will display an error message and prevent the configuration from being saved.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues:

  • Verify you have Manage Sprint permissions for all relevant projects

  • Ensure your selected board is configured as a Scrum board

  • Check that your sprint advance settings align with your team's planning capacity
